ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke over the phone with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, during which the two sides underscored the importance of continued diplomacy, dialogue, and constructive engagement in advancing regional and international peace and stability.
During the call, Director General Grossi expressed hope that the parties would sustain dialogue and engagement following the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, with a view to achieving a peaceful and durable outcome, a Foreign Office statement said on Sunday.

The IAEA chief also briefed Ishaq Dar on his candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for the United Nations and effective multilateralism.
Pakistan seeks permanent settlement of US-Iran conflict
On Friday, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called upon the international community to seize the opportunity provided by the Islamabad MoU and the ongoing technical negotiations to push for a permanent, peaceful and durable settlement of the Iran-US conflict.
He said Pakistan firmly believes that dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect provide the only sustainable way forward to resolve conflicts and achieve durable peace and security.

The Islamabad MoU, brokered by Pakistan, was signed in June to end hostilities between the two countries and pave the way for a lasting peace agreement to permanently end the conflict.
The Islamabad MoU was signed on June 18 by US President Donald Trump, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, following Islamabad brokered a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.
Under the Islamabad MoU, the US and Iran committed to halt military operations, reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, and negotiate a comprehensive agreement covering Iran’s nuclear programme, US sanctions, and a permanent ceasefire within 60 days.
UN Chief commends Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has commended Pakistan’s efforts to promote peaceful conflict resolution at the UN Security Council (UNSC), describing the country’s diplomatic initiatives as vital in helping reduce regional tensions and encouraging dialogue at a time of mounting global instability.
Speaking during an open debate of the Security Council convened under Pakistan-sponsored Resolution 2788 (2025), Guterres stressed that diplomacy and mediation remain the most effective tools for preventing and resolving conflicts, particularly as violence continues to spread across the Middle East and other regions.
