DOHA: Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the latest regional developments during a telephone conversation on Friday.
During the phone call, they discussed ways to implement the framework of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said.
“Both leaders have expressed support for ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and enhancing regional security,” it said.

They also discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries and ways to support and strengthen it.
“It also dealt with the latest regional developments, particularly the diplomatic efforts and joint coordination to reduce escalation and enhance security and stability in the region,” according to the statement.
During the call, the Qatari prime minister and foreign minister emphasised the importance of all parties upholding dialogue and diplomacy, while adhering to the commitments outlined in the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.
The Qatari top diplomat reaffirmed Doha’s full support for initiatives seeking to reduce tensions and reach a comprehensive agreement that would contribute to lasting peace and security in the Middle East.
Qatar in talks with US, Iran to de-escalate situation
Qatar is also holding discussions with the United States and Iran as part of diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East following recent exchanges of strikes between Washington and Tehran, according to a report by The New York Times.
The Gulf state has been engaging with both sides through diplomatic channels in an effort to ease tensions and prevent further escalation, according to officials familiar with the discussions.
Trump agrees to continue Iran talks, reiterates ceasefire is ‘over’
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that he agreed to continue talks with Iran after receiving a request from Tehran.
