Saudi, Qatari Foreign Ministers Discuss Latest Regional Developments

RIYADH: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed the latest regional developments during a telephone conversation on Thursday.

During the telephone conversation, the Saudi and Qatari foreign ministers condemned the Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan, as well as the ongoing threats to maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

“During the call, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the region and expressed their condemnation and denunciation of the Iranian attacks targeting the brotherly State of Kuwait, the brotherly Kingdom of Bahrain, and the brotherly Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as well as the ongoing threats to maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry statement read.

The two foreign ministers also reviewed the efforts being made to restore security and stability, emphasising the importance of continued coordination and joint action to de-escalate tensions and mitigate the negative repercussions of the crisis at both the regional and international levels, the Saudi foreign ministry stated.

Earlier, the Saudi Foreign Minister held a phone call with his Kuwaiti counterpart during which the two sides condemned Iranian Attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait.

During the call with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prince Faisal discussed the latest developments in the region and their security implication, a Foreign Ministry statement said on Thursday.

The Saudi Foreign Minister expressed the Kingdom’s condemnation and denunciation of the heinous Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait and Bahrain.

The two ministers also underscored the importance of de-escalation, containing tensions, and exerting all efforts to preserve the security and stability of the region.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a separate statement, expressed the Kingdom’s strongest condemnation and denunciation of the repeated Iranian aggressions against Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, renewing its complete rejection of Iran’s violation of the sovereignty of the sisterly states and its continued threat to the security and stability of the region.

Earlier, Iran and the US traded fresh military strikes, with Tehran launching missile and drone attacks on US military bases in Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait after Washington carried out another wave of strikes on Iranian military targets.

The latest exchange comes less than 48 hours after the United States launched major strikes on Iranian military infrastructure in response to attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
