RIYADH: Marking World Refugee Day on June 20, the Saudi aid agency, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), highlighted the kingdom’s extensive efforts to support refugees and displaced populations around the world, reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and the protection of human dignity.
The country has emerged as a leading global contributor to refugee and displacement relief, providing support both within its borders and through humanitarian, relief, and development initiatives in countries across the globe, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.
These efforts have delivered tangible benefits to millions of vulnerable people and reinforced the Kingdom’s position as one of the world’s largest humanitarian donors.
According to KSrelief, Saudi Arabia’s total contributions to refugees, displaced persons and affected communities have reached $23.761 billion.
The Kingdom has also prioritised assistance for refugees residing within the country by offering free healthcare and education, facilitating employment opportunities and promoting social integration.
Support provided to refugees from Yemen, Syria, the Rohingya community, and Sudan had reached $20.430 billion by 2026. Refugees currently account for approximately 5.5 percent of Saudi Arabia’s population.
KSrelief continues to implement a wide range of humanitarian programs, including the establishment of refugee camps, the operation of mobile medical clinics, the distribution of food and shelter assistance, and the execution of water and sanitation projects in multiple countries.
Since its establishment in 2015, KSrelief has carried out 4,394 humanitarian and development projects in 113 countries, with a total value exceeding $8.482 billion.
The centre said these initiatives reflect Saudi Arabia’s enduring commitment to humanitarian action and its efforts to extend hope, assistance and support to vulnerable communities worldwide in line with the Kingdom’s values and principles.
