PM Shehbaz Hails Successful First High-Level Meeting on Pakistan- and Qatar-Mediated US-Iran Talks

PM Shehbaz Sharif says negotiations in Switzerland have produced a roadmap for a final agreement within 60 days and praises Pakistan's role in facilitating diplomacy.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the successful conclusion of the first high-level committee meeting on the Pakistan- and Qatar-mediated US-Iran talks, held under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), describing the discussions as a significant step towards a peaceful and lasting resolution through dialogue.

In a statement on Monday, the prime minister said the talks, hosted in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, were conducted in a positive and constructive atmosphere and resulted in encouraging progress between the United States and Iran.

According to Shehbaz Sharif, the participants agreed on a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within the next 60 days. The meeting also decided to establish a high-level committee to provide political oversight, while additional technical discussions are set to begin as part of the next phase of negotiations.

The prime minister commended the leadership of both the United States and Iran for maintaining their commitment to constructive engagement and thanked friendly and brotherly countries for supporting efforts to advance what he described as a historic process.

He paid special tribute to Qatar for its crucial role in helping create conditions conducive to the continuation of negotiations and also expressed appreciation to the Swiss government for facilitating the talks.

Shehbaz Sharif lauded Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his efforts, saying his dedication and perseverance had been instrumental in achieving progress.

The prime minister also acknowledged the diplomatic contribution of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his team at the Foreign Office. He further praised Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for his role in supporting the process.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, the prime minister said the country would continue to play an honest and sincere role in promoting dialogue and diplomacy aimed at securing a durable and peaceful settlement.
