JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet on Tuesday welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran to stop military operations and start formal negotiations toward a lasting peace, while also praising the diplomatic efforts of Pakistan and Qatar in facilitating the breakthrough.

Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, chaired the Cabinet session held in Jeddah, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The Cabinet reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to its pre–February 28 status.

It also expressed hope that a lasting peace would be achieved in a way that strengthens regional and global security, while safeguarding the legitimate security interests of regional states and respecting their sovereignty and internal affairs.

The Pakistan-mediated US-Iran agreement aimed at ending the Middle East conflict will be signed on Friday at Switzerland’s Burgenstock mountain resort, the Swiss foreign ministry said.

The agreement follows months of Pakistan-led diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions that erupted on February 28 with US-Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequently spread across the region.

“The signing is scheduled for Friday, June 19, at Burgenstock,” the Swiss foreign ministry said in a statement.

The Swiss foreign ministry added that the location was proposed by Pakistani and Qatari mediators, as well as by the United States and Iran.

Pakistan will host the historic signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran to end the Middle East conflict and restore peace.

The anticipated agreement marks a significant step in efforts to ease tensions between the two long-standing adversaries and could open the door to further negotiations on wider regional and security issues.

At the outset of the session, the Saudi Cabinet praised the remarkable success and meticulous organisation of the 2026 Hajj season.

The Cabinet noted that, through coordinated and integrated efforts, the Kingdom facilitated the performance of rituals for more than 1.7 million pilgrims in comfort and ease.

It further highlighted Saudi Arabia’s growing status as a global benchmark in crowd management and in providing high-quality services to pilgrims, supported by a comprehensive institutional framework based on planning, data analysis, and advanced technologies.

The Cabinet extended its appreciation to the Supreme Hajj Committee and all agencies involved in serving pilgrims, commending their dedication and efforts in fulfilling this important Islamic responsibility.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency following the session, State Minister, Cabinet Member for Shura Council Affairs, and Acting Minister of Media Dr. Essam bin Saad bin Saeed said the Cabinet reviewed discussions and consultations held over recent days between Saudi Arabia and several brotherly and friendly countries.

He noted that these engagements aimed to strengthen relations and enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation across various fields, in a way that serves shared interests and mutual benefit, while also supporting international efforts to promote regional and global security and stability.
