GAZA CITY, Palestine: Israeli airstrikes and gunfire killed at least six Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, Palestinian health officials and Gaza’s civil defence agency said, as regional mediators intensified efforts to preserve a months-old ceasefire.

The latest violence came despite a ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025, and amid renewed diplomatic efforts led by Egypt, Qatar and Turkiye to secure implementation of a second phase of a US-backed peace plan.

Gaza’s civil defence agency said an Israeli airstrike targeted an area near Al-Yeman Al-Saeed Hospital in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, killing at least four people and wounding several others.

Al-Shifa Hospital said it received four bodies from the strike and treated five injured people.

Medical sources and eyewitnesses, cited by Anadolu Agency, said the strike hit commercial shops in the camp. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incident.

In separate incidents, two Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire in the southern Khan Younis area, according to Gaza’s civil defence service.

Medical sources identified one of the victims as 30-year-old Zaki Mohammed al-Qarra, who was killed after Israeli forces opened fire east of Khan Younis. Another person was wounded in the same incident.

A 13-year-old boy, Amir al-Bashiti, was also killed by Israeli gunfire in the Batn al-Sameen area south of Khan Younis, according to medical sources.

A Palestinian was seriously injured in an Israeli drone strike targeting tents sheltering displaced people in central Khan Younis, medical sources said.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the shootings and airstrikes.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces also carried out demolition operations against civilian structures in areas east of Gaza City and the town of Jabalia.

Israel and Hamas have repeatedly accused each other of violating the ceasefire, while efforts to negotiate a permanent end to the war remain stalled.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, 986 Palestinians have been killed and 3,138 wounded since the ceasefire took effect.

The Israeli military has reported the deaths of five soldiers during the same period.

The violence came as mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkiye concluded a week of discussions with Hamas and other Palestinian factions on implementing the second phase of a peace initiative proposed by US President Donald Trump.

The proposed framework would involve the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

An October 2025 ceasefire brokered by Trump halted major fighting but has failed to end Israeli military operations in the enclave or secure the disarmament of Hamas.

Hamas and other Palestinian factions said on Sunday that they had submitted a written response to a 15-point blueprint presented by the mediators and Trump’s Board of Peace. They did not disclose details of their response.
