Qatar, France Discuss Iran Mediation Efforts and Regional Crises

DOHA: Qatar and France held high-level diplomatic talks focused on regional security, mediation efforts involving Iran and a range of ongoing crises across the Middle East, underscoring the importance both countries attach to dialogue and de-escalation.

According to a statement issued by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani received a telephone call on Thursday from French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.

During the conversation, the two officials reviewed the state of relations between Qatar and France and explored opportunities to deepen cooperation across areas of mutual interest. The exchange reflected the close diplomatic engagement maintained by Doha and Paris on regional and international issues.

A significant part of the discussion focused on diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions between the United States and Iran. The ministers assessed recent developments related to ongoing mediation initiatives and exchanged views on prospects for advancing dialogue through peaceful and diplomatic channels.

The talks also addressed the broader security situation in the Middle East, including developments in Lebanon, the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories. Both sides reviewed the latest regional challenges amid continuing instability and humanitarian concerns.

The Qatari and French foreign ministers stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination among international partners to support mediation efforts and prevent further escalation.

They agreed that diplomatic engagement remains essential for preserving regional stability and creating conditions conducive to lasting peace.

Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the need for all parties involved in regional disputes to engage positively with current mediation initiatives.

He emphasised that durable solutions can only be achieved by addressing the underlying causes of conflicts through dialogue, negotiation and peaceful means.

The Qatari foreign minister also reaffirmed Doha’s longstanding support for diplomatic initiatives designed to reduce tensions and foster stability.

He reiterated Qatar’s commitment to efforts that could contribute to a sustainable agreement and help avert renewed confrontation in the region.

The conversation comes at a time of heightened diplomatic activity across the Middle East, with regional and international actors seeking to contain tensions and encourage negotiated solutions to several interconnected crises.
