Pakistan PM Seeks Stronger Economic Partnership with Saudi Arabia

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed a desire to enhance economic partnership with Saudi Arabia, adding that agriculture and food security could be another priority area in which both countries could explore mutually beneficial opportunities.

Prime Minister Sharif made the remarks during a meeting with a high-powered Saudi business delegation, led by Prince Mansour bin Mohammad Al Saud, Chairman Saudi-Pak Joint Business Council, at the Prime Minister House on Thursday, an official statement said.

The Prime Minister welcomed the Saudi delegation to Pakistan and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening economic relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through a comprehensive and mutually beneficial partnership.

He recalled the visit of His Highness Prince Mansour and a high-level Saudi business delegation to Pakistan in October 2025, noting that the engagement had laid the foundation for deeper economic cooperation.

Expressing optimism about the ongoing visit, the Prime Minister said it would help advance bilateral discussions and pave the way for the signing of memoranda of understanding and agreements across a range of sectors.

He conveyed his respectful regards to The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Prince Mansour thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome and hospitality and expressed the keen desire of the Saudi Government as well as the business community to enhance B2B engagement with Pakistan across a number of areas.

“They expressed Saudi interest in investment in projects related to ports, highways, airports, outsourcing, energy, power distribution, IT sector etc,” the statement added.

The Prime Minister welcomed Saudi investments in such diverse areas and also suggested that agriculture and food security could be another priority area in which both countries could explore mutually beneficial opportunities.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for Communications. Aleem Khan, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kiyani, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) Tariq Fatemi, SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan, and other senior government officials were also present.

The Saudi delegation is scheduled to hold meetings with key government and private sector partners to enhance Saudi investments in Pakistan, in line with the vision of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Saudi delegation held a meeting with Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and discussed scope of cooperation in Pakistan’s maritime sector.

Saudi Arabia remains one of Pakistan’s most important economic partners, with the two countries actively exploring investment opportunities across key sectors, including mining, energy, infrastructure, and logistics.
