Pakistan Stresses Timely Implementation of MoUs Signed at Hangzhou Conference

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong reaffirm commitment to expand strategic, economic and security cooperation under CPEC 2.0.

ISLAMABAD: The Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House on Wednesday, where the two sides held wide-ranging discussions on bilateral relations, economic cooperation and regional developments.

Senior officials including Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Syed Tauqir Shah, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch were also present during the meeting.

At the outset, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. He also recalled his recent visit to China, describing his engagements with the Chinese leadership as highly productive and substantive.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening the “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” with China, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of immediate and effective follow-up on the key decisions reached during his visit.

He particularly highlighted the need to accelerate cooperation in priority sectors under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Phase-II, with a focus on agriculture, information technology, industrial development including Special Economic Zones (SEZs), and exploration and development in the mines and minerals sector.

The Prime Minister also emphasised the importance of ensuring timely implementation of various Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed between Pakistani and Chinese companies during the Business-to-Business Investment Conference held in Hangzhou during his visit to China.

Commending the Chinese Ambassador’s role in facilitating the successful outcome of the visit, the Prime Minister observed that both sides must now work closely to translate leadership-level decisions into tangible results.

The two sides also discussed a range of additional matters, including fast-tracking the Karakoram Highway (KKH) realignment project, expanding cooperation in security, counter-terrorism and defence sectors, as well as enhancing economic and financial collaboration.

The evolving regional situation and broader international developments also came under discussion. Ambassador Jiang Zaidong thanked the Prime Minister for receiving him and extended greetings on the occasion of Eid ul Adha, as well as congratulations on the successful conclusion of the Prime Minister’s recent visit to China from 23–26 May.

He reiterated that China remains firmly committed to strengthening its “iron-clad” friendship with Pakistan and expressed readiness to further expand cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.
