ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Navy rescued a stranded offshore vessel carrying Indian and Indonesian crew members in the Arabian Sea after it suffered a critical technical failure while en route from Oman to India, Pakistan military’s media wing said on Tuesday.

According to the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the vessel, MV Gautam, was en route from Oman to India when it issued a distress call, which was relayed through the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai.

“Pakistan Navy, demonstrating vigilance and commitment to international maritime obligations, promptly responded to a distress call from the offshore vessel MV GAUTAM in the Arabian Sea,” ISPR said.

Responding swiftly, the Pakistan Navy deployed PMSA Ship Kashmir, which provided food, medical assistance and technical support to stabilise the vessel and ensure the safety of all seven crew members on board.

“Upon receiving the alert from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai, Pakistan Navy initiated a swift response and deployed PMSA Ship KASHMIR. The ship provided food, medical aid, and technical assistance to help restore essential systems and ensure crew safety,” ISPR said.

This operation underscores Pakistan Navy’s commitment to maritime safety and humanitarian responsibilities, irrespective of nationality, and highlights its readiness to respond to emergencies across regional waters, ISPR added.

Last month, the Pakistan Navy carried out an operation in the Arabian Sea and rescued 18 crew members, including foreign nationals, of a merchant vessel following a distress call.

“In a swift humanitarian operation, Pakistan Navy successfully rescued and evacuated 18 crew members, including nationals of China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia, following a distress call from merchant vessel (MV) Gold Autumn, operating in the North Arabian Sea at 200 nautical miles (approximately 370 km) off Pakistan’s coast,” a statement had said.
