KARACHI: Pakistan women’s national cricket team began their one-day international series with a dominant 168-run victory over Zimbabwe women’s national cricket team at the National Bank Stadium on Monday.

Chasing a formidable target of 331, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 162 in 36.4 overs, despite a fighting half-century from Beloved Biza.

Batting first, Pakistan amassed 330 for five in their allotted 50 overs, driven by strong contributions from the top and middle order.

Openers Sadaf Shamas and Gull Feroza laid a solid platform with a 162-run partnership.

Feroza scored 50 off 60 balls, while Shamas narrowly missed out on a century, making 98 off 130 deliveries with 17 boundaries.

Sidra Amin added momentum with a fluent 67 off 59 balls, striking nine fours.

Wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi then provided a late surge, smashing an unbeaten 56 off just 30 balls, including eight fours and a six.

Captain Fatima Sana contributed a quick 11 not out off three deliveries.

Pakistan also benefitted from 43 extras as Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to maintain control.

For Zimbabwe, Precious Marange was the standout performer with figures of 3 for 39, while Kudzai Chigora and Nomvelo Sibanda claimed one wicket each.

In reply, Zimbabwe’s innings never gained sustained momentum.

Biza top-scored with 53 off 53 balls, hitting eight boundaries, while Kelis Ndhlovu added 31.

However, the rest of the batting line-up failed to build partnerships against a disciplined Pakistan attack.

Fatima Sana led from the front with two wickets, supported by Syeda Aroob Shah and Tasmia Rubab, who also claimed two each.

Momina Riasat and Nashra Sandhu chipped in with one wicket apiece.

With the comprehensive win, Pakistan take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second ODI is scheduled to be played on May 6 at the same venue.
