RIYADH: The Saudi Film Commission is organising the screening of Saudi films in Spain from April 22 to 28 to showcase contemporary Saudi cinematic experiences to the European audience.

During the “Saudi Film Nights” films will be screened in Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

The event highlights Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in the European cinematic scene, alongside its established filmmaking heritage.

The initiative creates meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange, encouraging dialogue and collaboration between Saudi and Spanish filmmakers while introducing Saudi cinema to new audiences in Spain.

The event includes five screenings of four Saudi films—two feature-length and two short works: Hobal, Mera Mera Mera, Gum, and Hijra.

Together, these films explore the Kingdom’s cultural and social landscapes through distinct artistic voices and diverse storytelling perspectives.

In addition, several Saudi filmmakers will attend the event and participate in open panel discussions, further enhancing cultural engagement and fostering deeper creative dialogue between the two countries.

The screenings will begin in Madrid, continue to Barcelona, and conclude in Seville.

They will take place at Cines Golem in Madrid, Cines Renoir Floridablanca in Barcelona, and Odeon Plaza de Armas in Seville—venues renowned for attracting audiences interested in international and arthouse cinema, providing Saudi films with access to a broad and diverse European viewership.

The “Saudi Film Nights” initiative in Spain is part of the Film Commission’s broader efforts to enhance the presence of Saudi cinema in European markets and deepen collaboration with international film and cultural institutions.

It creates new opportunities for professional partnerships and knowledge exchange within the industry, while showcasing local creativity and national talent.

The initiative also reinforces the Kingdom’s role as a dynamic cultural force, using cinema as a bridge for cross-cultural dialogue and global engagement.
