UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has strongly condemned Israeli strikes in Lebanon, urging an immediate halt to attacks and calling for de-escalation amid a worsening humanitarian crisis.
Speaking at an ambassadorial meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation at the United Nations headquarters, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, said the humanitarian situation in Lebanon is “catastrophic and deteriorating by the day”.
He noted that recent Israeli bombardment, particularly in southern regions and densely populated areas, has caused significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, the envoy said Islamabad fully supports the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Lebanon, and condemned Israel’s continued military actions in the strongest terms.
“The large-scale destruction of civilian infrastructure and the blatant disregard for international humanitarian law must cease immediately,” he demanded.
Lebanon’s de-escalation initiatives
Pakistan also welcomed efforts by the Lebanese government to restore stability and strengthen state authority, including steps taken to reinforce national security structures.
Ambassador Jadoon acknowledged Lebanon’s de-escalation initiatives, including a four-point plan aimed at restoring calm and stability, and stressed the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement.
He further condemned attacks on United Nations peacekeepers serving with UNIFIL who have been injured in Israeli strikes, calling for greater protection of international personnel.
The envoy emphasised the urgent need to fund emergency humanitarian efforts and ensure reliable access to aid across affected areas.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, he said de-escalation and restraint are essential to prevent further deterioration of regional security.
“Only through sustained political dialogue and respect for international law can the region move toward stability and peace,” he maintained.
