RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Ukraine have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in defence procurement, focusing on the acquisition of military equipment and services.

The agreement was formalised on Friday in Jeddah, with Khalid bin Hussein Al-Bayari representing Saudi Arabia and Lieutenant General Andriy Hinatov signing on behalf of Ukraine.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the MoU underscores both nations’ efforts to strengthen defence sector collaboration and expand cooperation in military technology, procurement, and services.

The deal reflects a growing strategic partnership between Riyadh and Kyiv amid broader regional and global security considerations.

It may be recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky paid a visit to Saudi Arabia on Thursday. He met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah, where they discussed regional escalation and the Ukraine crisis, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

They also discussed Ukraine’s war with Russia, the SPA reported.

Last year, Saudi Arabia hosted United States officials for separate meetings with delegations from Ukraine and Russia, as part of efforts to help bring an end to the four-year conflict that began in February 2022.
