Farhan surpasses Kohli’s longstanding record
Farhan’s achievement saw him eclipse Kohli’s previous record of 319 runs, which the Indian maestro had accumulated during the 2014 T20 World Cup at an astonishing average of 106.33. The Pakistan opener now heads the elite list of batters with the most runs in a single men’s T20 World Cup edition.
The illustrious standings also feature Pakistan’s Babar Azam alongside Sri Lankan legends Tillakaratne Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene.
Most runs in a men’s T20 World Cup edition
Sahibzada Farhan (Pakistan) – 337 runs in 2026
Virat Kohli (India) – 319 runs in 2014
Tillakaratne Dilshan (Sri Lanka) – 317 in 2009
Babar Azam (Pakistan) – 303 in 2021
Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) – 302 in 2010
Record-Breaking knock powers Pakistan’s strong start
Farhan had further bolstered his tournament tally to 337 runs, smashing his second century of the ongoing 20-team tournament. His fluent knock spearheaded Pakistan’s flamboyant start in the must-win fixture, with the 2009 champions well placed at 90 for no loss after 12 overs.
This achievement propelled him into another exclusive club of batters with most fifty-plus scores in a single men’s T20 World Cup edition.
Elite Company in Fifty-Plus Scores
Farhan now stands alongside Australian great Matthew Hayden, India’s Kohli, and compatriot Babar in this distinguished list. Kohli and Babar both registered four fifty-plus scores in a single edition, with the Indian superstar achieving the milestone twice during his illustrious T20 World Cup career.
Hayden had previously set the benchmark with four fifty-plus scores during the 2007 edition, a mark that has now been matched and potentially surpassed by Farhan’s continued brilliance in the ongoing tournament.
