ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday accused Israel of escalating attacks in Gaza and the West Bank, despite a ceasefire secured on October 10, 2025, with Türkiye’s mediation efforts.

Speaking at an iftar dinner in Ankara, the traditional meal for breaking the fast during Ramadan, Erdogan praised the people of Gaza for their resilience.

He said those who break their fast amid ruins and refuse to bow to oppression are “setting an example for Muslims through their faith.”

Erdogan’s remarks

Erdogan’s remarks come amid continued international concern over civilian suffering in Gaza and ongoing tensions in the West Bank.

Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkiye, and 13 other countries, along with the Arab League and Organization of Islamic Cooperation, strongly condemned Israel’s recent measures expanding control over parts of the occupied West Bank, calling them a violation of international law that undermines the two-state solution, regional peace, and Palestinian statehood.

In a joint statement, the ministers denounced actions including reclassifying Palestinian land as “state land,” accelerating settlement activity, and approving the controversial E1 project, while highlighting rising settler violence and violations of the status quo in Jerusalem.

They urged Israel to reverse the measures, respect international obligations, release withheld Palestinian tax revenues, and take steps to ensure accountability, emphasizing that a sovereign Palestinian state remains essential for lasting peace, stability, and regional integration.
