Pakistan to Establish Special Protection Unit for Chinese Nationals in Islamabad

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announces enhanced security measures and deeper counterterrorism cooperation during high-level talks in Beijing

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has announced the establishment of a dedicated Special Protection Unit in Islamabad to ensure the security of Chinese nationals, underscoring the country’s commitment to safeguarding its strategic partnership with China.

The announcement was made by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi during his meeting with China’s Minister of Public Security, Wang Xiaohong, at the Ministry of Public Security headquarters in Beijing on Wednesday.

According to Pakistan’s interior ministry, the meeting marked a significant step forward in bilateral security cooperation.

Both sides agreed to develop a joint and rapid response mechanism against terrorism, expand police training programs, and enhance information-sharing between relevant institutions. The Chinese minister praised Pakistan’s sacrifices and efforts in combating terrorism and strengthening internal security.

Naqvi briefed his counterpart on the comprehensive measures being taken to protect Chinese citizens and projects in Pakistan, reaffirming that their security remains a top national priority.

He highlighted that the new special protection unit in Islamabad would further strengthen these efforts.

The two ministers also discussed cooperation in cybercrime prevention, with Pakistan seeking Chinese support to enhance the capacity of its National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency.

Naqvi noted that Chinese expertise and AI-based technologies could play a vital role in addressing modern security challenges.

In a move to institutionalize cooperation, both sides agreed to hold joint working group meetings every three months and a ministerial-level meeting annually.

Invitations were exchanged for future visits and participation in international security forums, reflecting the growing depth of Pakistan-China strategic ties.
