JEDDAH: Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha has reiterated the Islamic bloc’s support for Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.
He categorically rejected any actions or attempts that would undermine Yemen’s unity or compromise its constitutional legitimacy and national institutions, in light of recent developments in the country.
The OIC Secretary-General reaffirmed the body’s full support for Yemen’s legitimate government, represented by the President of the Presidential Leadership Council and the internationally recognised authorities.
He underscored the importance of preserving and strengthening state institutions to enable the Yemeni people to achieve their aspirations for security, stability, and development.
In this context, the Secretary-General condemned any actions by the Southern Transitional Council that threaten Yemen’s unity, undermine peace efforts, or prolong the conflict.
He emphasised that any disruption to Yemen’s security and stability also poses a threat to peace across the region.
He welcomed the announcement of the United Arab Emirates’ withdrawal of forces from Yemen, describing it as a constructive step that promotes de-escalation and spares the blood of the Yemeni people.
The Secretary-General further stressed that the security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are inviolable red lines.
He affirmed that any threat to Saudi security constitutes a direct threat to the stability of the region and the broader Islamic world, highlighting the OIC’s unwavering solidarity with the Kingdom in safeguarding its national security.
He concluded by emphasising the need to continue supporting political and diplomatic efforts to reach a comprehensive and lasting solution to the Yemeni crisis.
He called on all Yemeni parties to uphold legitimacy, renounce violence, and prioritise dialogue and the nation’s higher interests, with the aim of achieving security, stability, development, and the preservation of Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
