A Lasting Legacy in Bangladesh Cricket
Zaki was a revered figure in Bangladeshi cricket, best known for his pivotal role in developing the nation’s fast bowlers. He served the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for approximately 17 years as a specialist pace-bowling coach in its game development department. His most notable work was with national team spearhead Taskin Ahmed, whom he guided through a critical period after Taskin was reported for a suspect bowling action in 2016.
In an official statement, the BCB said, “Following his playing career, Mahbub Ali Zaki dedicated himself to coaching and player development. He joined the BCB in 2008 as a High Performance coach and went on to make a significant contribution to the growth of pace bowling in the country through his work.” His responsibilities also included liaising with overseas bowling coaches working with the national men’s team.
