ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and snowfall in several parts of the country through December 18, warning that adverse weather may disrupt daily life and travel in northern and mountainous regions.
According to the PMD, Islamabad and surrounding areas are expected to remain mostly cloudy from today, with intermittent rainfall likely over the coming days.
Similar conditions are forecast for Murree and nearby areas, where both rain and snowfall could impact routine activities and travel.
A western weather system is expected to affect northern and northwestern regions from December 13 to 15. As a result, rain and snowfall are likely in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Kohistan, as well as in various parts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Heavy snowfall is expected in mountainous areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kohistan, increasing the risk of road blockages and travel disruptions.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, rainfall is expected in plain areas, while moderate to heavy snowfall is forecast in hilly and mountainous regions.
Upper areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and mountainous parts of AJK may also experience intense snowfall, which could disrupt road connectivity and daily routines.
Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat and other northwestern districts, is likely to receive light rainfall, with snowfall expected at higher elevations.
In the plains, light to moderate rain is anticipated, while snowfall may continue intermittently in elevated and northern areas.
In response to the forecast, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory urging precautionary measures.
Authorities warned that slippery road conditions are likely in hilly areas due to snowfall, which may affect traffic flow and lead to temporary road closures.
The NDMA has advised tourists and travellers to avoid unnecessary travel to mountainous regions during this period and urged local administrations to remain on high alert.
Citizens have been urged to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to minimise risks associated with severe weather conditions.
