CAIRO, Egypt: Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, has strongly condemned the attack by Israeli occupation forces on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) headquarters in Jerusalem.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, he described it as a blatant attack on the United Nations and its international legitimacy and a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions that reflects complete disregard for the international community and its authority.

Al-Yamahi stated that these actions are part of a systematic campaign by the Israeli occupation to undermine UNRWA, cutting off its resources and directly targeting its humanitarian mission to provide essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees.

He emphasised that this is an attempt to weaken the agency’s international role, halt its operations, and deprive the Palestinian people of their fundamental rights.

The Arab Parliament speaker urged the international community and the United Nations to take immediate and decisive action against these ongoing violations, warning that such measures pose a serious threat to the foundations of the international order.

He held the Israeli occupation fully accountable for the escalation and its impact on regional stability and global security.

UNRWA chief also condemned the Israeli authorities’ seizure of assets from its East Jerusalem compound on Monday.

“Today in the early morning, Israeli police, accompanied by municipal officials, forcibly entered the UNRWA compound in East Jerusalem,” Philippe Lazzarini said on X.

With trucks and forklifts, the authorities took “furniture, IT equipment and other property,” and the compound’s United Nations flag was replaced with an Israeli one, Lazzarini added.

Lazzarini has been declared persona non grata by Israeli authorities, who banned his agency from operating inside the country early this year.
