KARACHI: The first International Capital Market Conference & Expo 2025 concluded on Wednesday with participants renewing their commitment to deepen capital market cooperation and strengthen regional financial linkages.

Hosted by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) in collaboration with Capital Market Infrastructure Institutions, the two-day event drew regulators, policymakers, academicians, and market practitioners from Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, China, Iran, and the United States.

The forum provided a platform for dialogue on deepening capital markets, regional integration, digitisation, commodities trading, and pension reforms. A Gong Ceremony at the Pakistan Stock Exchange symbolised the growing collaboration and connectivity among the participating countries, earning praise from both foreign delegates and domestic stakeholders for fostering cross-border engagement.

A high-level panel discussion on Islamic finance highlighted its role in capital market development. Panellists emphasised legislative reforms, capacity building, and harmonised Shariah screening frameworks while underscoring the importance of increasing retail investor participation and raising awareness of ethical investment opportunities.

The conference also featured a presentation on Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), detailing their growth trajectory in Pakistan and the potential to deepen the country’s investment landscape. The SECP’s role in developing a robust regulatory framework was highlighted as essential for the sector’s sustainable growth.

Ayatollah Dr Gholamreza Mesbahi Moghaddam, Chair of the Shariah Committee of Iran, delivered a keynote address, offering insights on adopting Islamic finance principles and promoting regional financial collaboration.

In his closing remarks, the CEO of the Pakistan Stock Exchange commended the SECP for organising the event and noted that such initiatives pave the way for enhanced cross-border cooperation, knowledge sharing, and stronger investor confidence.
