ISLAMABAD: Saudi aid agency, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), has distributed 180 tons of dates among flood-affected families in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province, Pakistan’s state media reported on Monday.
The programme was implemented in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and its implementing partner Hayat Foundation, Radio Pakistan said.
This initiative aimed to support vulnerable families affected by recent floods by providing them with nutritious food assistance.
Pakistan faced a devastating monsoon season this year, with more than 1,000 fatalities reported in rain-related incidents since late June.
Torrential downpours and the release of excess water from dams in India triggered severe flooding across Punjab, resulting in the deaths of over 130 people and damaging more than 2.2 million acres of crops.
According to provincial data, the floods affected more than 4.5 million residents across the region.
Last month, KSrelief launched its Dates Distribution Project, aimed at providing dates to vulnerable families across Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Through KSrelief, Saudi Arabia has remained one of Pakistan’s leading humanitarian partners, supporting initiatives in flood recovery, healthcare, education, and livelihood development throughout the country.
In October, KSrelief also introduced a project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to strengthen livelihoods and improve food security for vulnerable rural households through livestock distribution and training programmes.
