JOHANNESBURG, South Africa: Mohammed Kudus struck early in the second half to secure a 1-0 win over Comoros, sending Ghana to their fifth FIFA World Cup and confirming their place as one of Africa’s automatic qualifiers for the 2026 tournament.
Playing in front of a 40,000-strong crowd in Accra, the Black Stars topped Group I with 25 points, completing a redemption arc after a poor 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign had put coach Otto Addo under intense pressure.
The win was also revenge for past defeats to Comoros in the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers, as Kudus capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to score in the 47th minute, sealing Ghana’s return to the world stage, where they reached the quarter-finals in 2010.
