SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday held a series of high-level meetings with global leaders, including US President Donald Trump, on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit to formalise the US-brokered Gaza ceasefire deal.
PM Sharif and President Trump warmly shook hands during the cordial exchange and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
President Trump briefly met more than 20 leaders who arrived in the Egyptian resort city to attend the conference. The meetings were followed by a group photo.
The summit, co-chaired by President Trump and Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, brought together leaders and top officials from over 20 countries and global organisations — including the United Nations, European Union, and Arab League — to endorse a peace agreement described by Egypt’s foreign ministry as a “historic document ending the war in the Gaza Strip.”

Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Palestine
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to continue extending diplomatic, moral, and humanitarian support for their just struggle.

“Pakistan will continue to stand by the Palestinian cause and support all peaceful initiatives aimed at ending violence and ensuring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.”

President Abbas expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its “consistent and principled” support of the Palestinian cause and its “firm advocacy on political and diplomatic fronts,” according to Pakistan’s state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
Both leaders welcomed the ceasefire as a “vital step toward lasting peace and the future development of the Palestinian people.”

PM Sharif Praises Trump’s Role
Ahead of the summit, Prime Minister Sharif praised US President Donald Trump’s role in mediating the Gaza peace agreement between Israel and Hamas, calling it a “decisive step towards ending years of bloodshed.”
“Grateful to our co-hosts, President El-Sisi and President Trump,” PM Sharif wrote on the social media platform X.
“We would not have seen this moment without President Trump’s outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment. It took his single-minded pursuit of peace to end the needless killing and destruction.”
The Pakistani leader said the ceremony marked the “closing of a genocidal chapter, one that the international community must ensure is never repeated anywhere again.”
Two years of Israeli bombardment in Gaza have killed more than 67,869 people, according to Palestinian health authorities, with the toll continuing to rise as more bodies are recovered.

Peace Summit and Ceasefire Agreement
The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit marked the culmination of weeks of intensive diplomacy launched on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly’s 80th session in New York last month.
According to AFP, mediators — the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye — signed a “guarantee document” ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners between Israel and Hamas.
Hamas did not attend the summit directly, though Palestinian President Abbas participated on behalf of the Palestinian Authority. Israeli officials also did not take part.
The Egyptian presidency said the gathering in the Red Sea resort town sought “to end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East, and usher in a new era of regional security.”
World leaders attending included British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
