LONDON: A vigil was held outside the prime minister’s office in London for Palestinians killed since October 2023 in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, where the death toll has surpassed 67,000.

Anadolu news agency reported that the demonstration was organized by the Palestinian Forum in Britain (PFB) to mark two years since the start of Israel’s onslaught on the Palestinian enclave.

Demonstrators Demand Justice for Gaza Victims

Carrying Palestinian flags, dozens of demonstrators on Wednesday held placards reading “Palestinians resist” and “Say no to ethnic cleansing.” Candles were lit and placed alongside photos of those killed by Israeli forces, as participants observed a minute of silence for Gaza.

Since October 2023, Israeli strikes have killed nearly 67,200 Palestinians, most of them women and children, leaving Gaza in ruins and virtually uninhabitable.

Breakthrough After Two Years of War

Israel and Hamas agreed on Thursday to the first phase of a ceasefire in Gaza, a move aimed at ending more than two years of devastating war that has killed tens of thousands, flattened much of the territory, and triggered one of the worst humanitarian crises in modern history.

The US-brokered deal — set to be formally signed later Thursday — includes the release of captives and prisoners, as well as a large-scale humanitarian aid surge into Gaza. It follows prolonged negotiations involving Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye, and marks the first concrete step toward halting Israel’s military campaign that began after Hamas’s October 2023 attack.

Both sides have agreed to an initial framework allowing for the release of all hostages held in Gaza, partial Israeli withdrawal to a designated line, and the freeing of a significant number of Palestinian detainees.
