RIYADH: Saudi Minister of Defence Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz held a phone call on Wednesday with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and condemned the Israeli attack on the Gulf state.
During the call, the minister of defence reaffirmed the Kingdom’s full support for Qatar and condemned the Israeli attack, describing it as a criminal act and a flagrant violation of international law and norms, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
On Tuesday, Israel struck a residential building housing Hamas members as they were discussing the latest proposal presented by U.S. President Donald Trump over a Gaza truce.
Earlier today, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani warned his country reserved the right to respond to Israel’s deadly attack on Doha on Tuesday, calling it a “pivotal moment” for the entire region.
“Qatar… reserves the right to respond to this blatant attack,” the Qatari Prime Minister told a press conference.
“We believe that today we have reached a pivotal moment. There must be a response from the entire region to such barbaric actions,” Sheikh Mohammed added.
According to Doha News, the UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday over Israel’s shocking attack on Doha.
The meeting will convene at the request of Algeria and Pakistan, both of which strongly condemned the Israeli attack and expressed their solidarity with Qatar.
Saudi Arabia on Tuesday strongly condemned what it described as a “brutal Israeli aggression” against Qatar following an attack on the capital Doha, which Israel said was a strike targeting Hamas officials in the city.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the strike as “a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter” and warned it would further destabilize the region, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Saudi Arabia warned of the dire consequences resulting from Israel’s persistence in its criminal violations and its blatant violation of the principles of international law and all international norms.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke on the phone with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, reaffirming the Kingdom’s “full solidarity” with Qatar, SPA reported.
He pledged to place “all capabilities” at Qatar’s disposal to support any measures taken to protect its security and sovereignty.
