ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s government, on the special directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has dispatched a consignment of humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people in Gaza.

A dedicated relief flight carrying 100 tonnes of essential supplies—including 65 tonnes of canned food, 20 tonnes of dry and infant milk, 5 tonnes of biscuits, and 10 tonnes of medicine departed on Sunday from Islamabad International Airport as part of Pakistan’s ongoing support for the Palestinian people in their time of urgent need.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik attended the send-off ceremony as Chief Guest, while representatives of Al-khidmat Foundation were also present on the occasion.

Palestinian Ambassador in Islamabad attended the ceremony.

The consignment, organised under the patronage of the Government of Pakistan and led by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), forms part of a larger 200-tonne humanitarian relief effort being carried out through two chartered flights.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar stated that Pakistan has now dispatched a total of 17 humanitarian aid consignments to Gaza, amounting to 1,715 tonnes. With another flight scheduled in the coming days, this total will increase to 1,815 tonnes.

He stressed that these ongoing efforts demonstrate Pakistan’s strong solidarity with the people of Gaza and its steadfast commitment to supporting them through continued collaboration with both local and international humanitarian partners.

The Deputy Prime Minister also lauded NDMA’s effective coordination and acknowledged the efforts of Alkhidmat Foundation and other partner NGOs for their tireless humanitarian contributions. He reaffirmed that Pakistan will continue to stand by the people of Palestine and expand its relief operations as the situation evolves.

The Palestinian Ambassador expressed gratitude and thanked the people of Pakistan for supporting the war-ravaged people of Gaza and Palestine in the difficult times.

Pakistan remains resolute in its moral, political, and humanitarian support for the people of Gaza.

Gaza death toll rises to 60,839

At least 60,839 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza since October 2023, the Gaza Health Ministry said.

A ministry statement said that 119 bodies were brought to hospitals in the last 24 hours, while 866 people were wounded, taking the number of wounded to 149,588 in the Israeli onslaught.

“Many victims are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them,” it added.

The ministry also noted that 65 Palestinians were killed and over 511 were wounded while trying to get humanitarian aid in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of Palestinians killed while seeking aid to 1,487, with over 10,578 others wounded since May 27.
