BEIJING: China and Russia will conduct a joint naval exercise, Joint Sea 2025, in the waters and airspace near Vladivostok in August 2025, a Chinese defence ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defence, stated that following the exercise, both sides will deploy units from their respective forces to designated areas in the Pacific Ocean to conduct the sixth joint maritime patrol.

“This is an arrangement within the annual cooperation plan between the Chinese and Russian militaries. It is not targeted at any third party, nor is it related to the current international and regional situation,” said the spokesperson.

The “Joint Sea” naval exercises have become a regular feature of military cooperation between Moscow and Beijing, reflecting their strengthening defence relationship.

In July last year, the two countries’ militaries also held joint exercises in the waters and airspace adjacent to Zhanjiang, located in southern China’s Guangdong Province.

Diplomatic ties between China and Russia have grown stronger in recent years, with China providing economic support to Russia amid Western sanctions.
