ANKARA: Turkish security forces on Friday neutralized eight PKK/YPG terrorists near its border in northern Syria, the National Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The terrorists were neutralized in the Operation Olive Branch and Operation Euphrates Shield zones, the national defence ministry said.

Turkish authorities use the term “neutralize” to hint the terrorists in question were killed or surrendered or captured. The organization’s terrorists hide out in northern Syria, near the Turkish border, where they plan or stage attacks on both locals and nearby settlements in Turkiye.

Turkish forces’ successful operations

Since 2016, Turkiye has launched successful anti-terror operations in northern Syria across its border to prevent the formation of a terror corridor and enable the residents’ peaceful settlement: Peace Spring (2019), Olive Branch (2018), and Euphrates Shield (2016).

In its over 35-year terror campaign against Turkiye, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by the EU, Türkiye, and the US – has been responsible for the killings of more than 40,000 people, including children, women, and infants. The YPG is its Syrian branch.
