Pakistan, Azerbaijan Ink $2 Billion Investment Agreement

ISLAMABAD: Azerbaijan has signed an agreement to invest a total of $2 billion in Pakistan’s economic sector.

The agreement was formally signed in the presence of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, PTV news reported on Friday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov signed the agreement on behalf of their respective countries.

The signing ceremony followed a cordial meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan held earlier in Khankendi.

The final, detailed agreement will be signed during the Azerbaijani President’s forthcoming visit to Pakistan.

Officials described this development as a historic step forward, elevating investment and trade relations between the two nations to an unprecedented level.

The agreement is expected to further strengthen the fraternal ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and solidify their commercial partnerships.

Both countries also agreed to expand cooperation across multiple sectors through continued engagement, mutual exchanges, and collaborative initiatives.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan have maintained close diplomatic and economic relations, with both countries seeking to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors.

In May 2025, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif visited Lachin, Azerbaijan, to attend a Pakistan-Turkey-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit.

In March 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a committee for the early realisation of the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements signed with Azerbaijan during his recent visit to the Central Asian state.
