ALULA: Saudi Arabia’s AlUla Governorate is all set to host the new edition of the AlUla Desert Blaze race on August 15–16, 2025.

More than 500 runners from around the world are expected to take part in the region’s one of the most challenging desert races, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

Set against the stunning natural landscape of AlUla, the event will lead participants through dramatic rocky canyons, rolling sand dunes, and lush oases, offering a unique sporting experience that blends physical challenge with spectacular views of both natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Open to runners of all abilities—from seasoned athletes to first-time participants—the race features four categories: 5 km, 10 km, 21.1 km (half marathon), and 42.2 km (full marathon), all taking place in a vibrant summer setting that promises excitement and adventure.

Each route showcases AlUla’s rich heritage and iconic landmarks. Runners in the 5 km, 10 km, and half-marathon events will start at Hegra, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, passing through a landscape steeped in historical and cultural significance.

The full marathon (42.2 km) will also start at Hegra, guiding runners past the renowned Maraya Building—recognised as the world’s largest mirror-clad structure and a symbol of AlUla’s cultural and architectural transformation under its visionary development strategy.
