NEW DELHI: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he received a phone call from his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, who briefed him on the evolving security situation following Israel’s strikes on Iran.
Israel on Friday launched a major attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories, and senior military commanders.
“Received a phone call from PM Netanyahu of Israel. He briefed me on the evolving situation. I shared India’s concerns and emphasized the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

India earlier said it is “deeply concerned” over the recent developments between Iran and Israel and was “closely monitoring” the evolving situation. The government urged both countries to avoid further escalation.
At least 78 people were killed and 329 others injured in a series of Israeli airstrikes that targeted the Iranian capital, Tehran, early Friday, local media reported.
“The unofficial death toll from today’s terrorist attack by the Zionist regime in Tehran province is estimated at 329 injured and 78 martyred,” the Iranian semi-official news agency Fars said.
Israel launched a large-scale attack early Friday, deploying around 200 aircraft to target Iran’s nuclear programme and long-range missile capabilities. Several senior Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists were killed in the strikes.
Iran has vowed “severe punishment” and called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to hold Israel accountable for its actions.
The Israeli army says the operation to “strike Iranian nuclear programme and its long-range missile capabilities” will continue for several days.
