ISLAMABAD: People in China reacted with delight and rushed to plan overseas trips Tuesday after Beijing announced it would end mandatory Covid-19 quarantine for overseas arrivals that will be ending nearly three years of self-imposed isolation.
The Chinese government said in a statement late Monday, from 8 January inbound travelers would no longer be needed to quarantine on arrival.
Expressing his joy at the move, 27-year-old Beijing office worker Fan Chengcheng said that he was feeling like the Covid-19 pandemic was over, and his travel plans pending for three years would now become a reality.
Reopening to benefit Chinese economy
A resident of Shanghai, Ji Weihe said that the decision would benefit the Chinese economy, citizens’ lives, and desires to go abroad.
Another Shanghai local Du, which goes only by his surname, said that a swifter reopening may help China reach herd immunity more quickly.
