Key points
- A total of 17 fixtures remain
- First double-header to take place on 18 May
- IPL to overlap with ODI series between England, West Indies
ISLAMABAD: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially released the revised fixture list for the remainder of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), which will now recommence on 17 May and conclude on 3 June.
The tournament was temporarily halted on 9 May due to rising cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. In a statement issued on Monday evening, the BCCI confirmed that the remaining matches will be staged across six venues: Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.
A total of 17 fixtures remain, comprising 13 league matches and four playoff ties. Two double-headers have been scheduled on consecutive Sundays.
The first double-header will take place on 18 May, featuring Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the afternoon slot (3:30 PM IST), followed by Delhi Capitals (DC) versus Gujarat Titans (GT) in the evening. The second, on 25 May, will see Gujarat Titans face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Ahmedabad in the afternoon, before Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) play Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) later that evening in Delhi.
ODI series
Originally due to wrap up on 25 May in Kolkata, the IPL will now overlap with the entire ODI series between England and the West Indies, which is set to commence on 29 May in Birmingham and finish on 3 June at The Oval. This scheduling clash presents a dilemma for West Indian players Romario Shepherd (RCB), Shamar Joseph (LSG), and Sherfane Rutherford (GT), all of whom have been named in the West Indies ODI squad.
England are yet to announce their squad, but potential conflicts could arise for several players, including Jos Buttler (GT), Phil Salt (RCB), Jacob Bethell (RCB), Liam Livingstone (RCB), Will Jacks (MI), and Reece Topley (MI), depending on their teams’ qualification for the playoffs.
The revised schedule also compresses the calendar significantly, leaving only a seven-day window between the IPL final and the World Test Championship Final, in which Australia and South Africa will contest for the title from 11 June at Lord’s.
Remaining matches
Notably, the abandoned fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on 8 May will now be replayed on 24 May in Jaipur. Furthermore, Punjab Kings will play their remaining two matches in Jaipur as well, with Mohali excluded from the list of venues for the resumed tournament.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians—still vying for a place in the playoffs—will play their final home game at Wankhede Stadium against Delhi Capitals on 21 May.
The suspension of the tournament followed the cancellation of a match in Dharamsala, prompted by escalating geopolitical tensions. Many overseas players have already departed India, and it remains to be seen how many will return, especially with looming international obligations.
All eyes will also be on Australia’s and South Africa’s Test contingents, given the proximity of the IPL final to the World Test Championship Final at Lord’s.
