ISLAMABAD: Amid tensions, Indian media has been accused of spreading deceptive propaganda against Pakistan, according to a recent report by German international broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW).
The outlet conducted a fact-check that debunked several viral videos and claims shared by Indian social media accounts during the ongoing conflict.
Attack on Sialkot
The DW reported that a video purportedly showing an attack on the Pakistani city of Sialkot was widely circulated on Indian platforms.
However, upon investigation, it was revealed that the footage was actually a month-old clip of a gas cylinder explosion in Mumbai.
DW confirmed that the video was falsely presented as evidence of Indian military action.
Deepfake video of DG ISPR
Furthermore, DW uncovered a deepfake video shared by Indian accounts that appeared to feature Pakistan’s Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry.
The video used artificial intelligence to alter the DG ISPR’s actual words, creating a misleading narrative.
President Trump’s fake video
Another fake video, allegedly showing former US President Donald Trump supporting Indian aggression, was also exposed.
DW reported that the video was AI-generated and that Trump never made such a statement.
DW emphasised the dangers of misinformation, warning that fake videos have the potential to incite public unrest.
The broadcaster urged social media users to verify content before sharing it.
Defence analysts echoed DW’s findings, stating that Indian media has a long history of spreading disinformation to obscure facts.
They added that international outlets are increasingly exposing India’s deceptive tactics, revealing what they described as its “true and sinister face.”
