ISLAMABAD: India has failed to present any credible and verifiable evidence linking Pakistan to the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) after swiftly accusing Islamabad of orchestrating the assault.
Pakistan condemned the attack and strongly rejected the Indian government’s baseless accusations.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also offered a “neutral and transparent” investigation into the Pahalgam attack. However, New Delhi has yet to respond to Pakistan’s offer.
Several days have passed since the Pahalgam incident, yet the Indian government has failed to provide any evidence to support its baseless accusations against Pakistan.
Instead, several images shared online as alleged “proof” have been confirmed to be artificially generated using AI tools, raising serious questions about the credibility of the Indian government’s claims.
The attack, which killed 26 people and injured 17, triggered a wave of misinformation on social media, with users sharing images allegedly showing victims at the scene.
However, multiple detection tools and visual inconsistencies have verified that these images are synthetic and not real photographs from the attack site.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours heightened after the incident.
India also suspended a decades-long water-sharing agreement, the Indus Waters Treaty, a move condemned by Islamabad. The two countries have also shut border crossings and further downgraded diplomatic ties.
There are many images and videos viral on social media, which are fake or AI-generated, claiming to be visuals from the recent Pahalgam attack.
The photos claiming to show victims of the Pahalgam terror attack are AI-generated, confirmed by multiple detection tools and visual inconsistencies.
A Facebook user shared the image, writing: “I am heartbroken and outraged by the cold-blooded killing of 26 innocent tourists in Pahalgam, today—an unspeakable act of barbarity carried out by terrorists. These were lives full of dreams, laughter, and stories that will now remain forever untold.”
Another image shows two individuals appearing lifeless on the ground, with a police officer sitting beside them. An X (formerly Twitter) user posted both photos, writing: “These photos are heartbreaking. Dead bodies of Hindus are lying in Pahalgam, Kashmir, the heaven on earth.
However, both the images, showing the bodies of the victims of the Pahalgam attack were artificially generated.
Furthermore, several versions of these images include a “Meta AI” watermark in the bottom right corner, strongly indicating the use of AI tools in their creation.
Various detection tools have confirmed that the images are synthetic, with visible inconsistencies further reinforcing these findings.
Meanwhile, a couple, wrongly identified as victims in the attack, appeared on social media with a video statement, debunking the Indian media’s misinformation. This blunder has raised serious questions about the credibility and fact-checking standards of Indian media.
Indian media had circulated old photographs of the couple, falsely claiming the man was a naval officer who had been killed in the Pahalgam attack.
