ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will embark on a two-day official visit to Turkey from Tuesday (April 22-23), where he will hold talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The talks will focus on the regional developments, particularly issues concerning Iran.

During the meetings with Turkish officials, he will discuss enhancing bilateral ties, boosting trade cooperation, and addressing regional challenges.

Turkey and Pakistan enjoy cordial ties, and last year, both sides agreed to enhance bilateral trade to $5 billion when Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited the Pakistani capital.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also visited Pakistan in February this year with a high-level delegation. During the visit, he co-chaired the session of the Pakistan-Turkey High-Level Cooperation Council (HLSCC).

The HLSCC was founded in 2009 as a framework for consultations at the highest political level between the two sides.

Several joint standing committees under the HLSCC cover vital sectors such as trade, investment, banking, finance, culture, tourism, energy, defence, agriculture, and others.

Pakistan and Turkey, during the visit, also signed 24 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on boosting trade and economic ties between the two nations.

Pakistan and Turkey in April signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly participate in Pakistan’s upcoming offshore bid round for oil and gas exploration, marking a significant step towards strengthening bilateral energy cooperation.

The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025 (PMIF25) in Islamabad.
