Japan’s Heavy Snow has caused 13 deaths, 80 Injuries

TOKYO: Officials said on Saturday that as many as 13 people have been killed and more than 80 injured due to heavy snow in the northern part of Japan. According to Reuters, more than 10,000 people are living without power after the heavy snowstorm in Japan.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency issued an alert and said that high waves and snowstorms can cause snow as deep as two feet in northern Japan.  The Fire and Disaster Management Agency told the media that more than 30 people have been seriously wounded while more than 50 received minor injuries.

State-run TV NHK reported that airplane and train services were suspended in many areas due to snowstorms in the northern part of the country.
