ISLAMABAD: A Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at US State Department Eric Meyer has said that a US delegation is set to visit Pakistan soon to discuss mineral deals.

The senior State Department official was speaking to an audience at the embassy of Pakistan in Washington DC on the occasion of Pakistan Day.

He highlighted the mutual benefits of the US-Pakistan partnership and celebrating the Pakistani diaspora in the US.

“Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Eric Meyer highlights mutual benefits of U.S.-Pakistan partnership—and celebrating large diaspora—on National Day of Pakistan at embassy in Washington, DC,” Patrick M Cronin, the Asia-Pacific Security Chair at Hudson Institute wrote on X.

According to State Department’s official website, Eric Meyer is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service.

“He is responsible for overseeing the bureau and coordinating the Administration’s policy priorities throughout South and Central Asia, including in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan,” as per the website.

Immense potential

Pakistan has the potential to become a global mining powerhouse, with its rich and diverse mineral reserves offering immense potential for growth and investment.

The national flag was hoisted at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, DC, on Sunday in an impressive ceremony to commemorate Pakistan Day.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, raised the flag to the tune of the national anthem, with officers and staff of the Embassy attending.

Special messages from the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar were read out on the occasion.

Additionally, Ambassador Sheikh issued a special message highlighting the significance of the day.
