RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia has condemned a series of Israel’s airstrikes in Syria and accused it of destabilising the security and stability of Syria and the region.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry in a statement on Wednesday said these airstrikes are a flagrant violation of international law.

“The Kingdom condemns Israeli attempts to destabilise the security and stability of Syria and the region through these repeated violations, which contravene relevant international agreements and laws,” the statement said.

The foreign ministry urged the international community to take a firm stance against these attacks and the importance that the Security Council member states to fulfil their role, stand firmly and seriously against these ongoing Israeli attacks and violations in Syria, prevent the expansion of the conflict, and activate international accountability mechanisms for these violations.

Saudi Arabia through the foreign ministry reiterated its solidarity with the Syrian government and its people.

On Monday, Syria’s civil defence said three people were killed and 19 injured, including four children and a woman, in Israeli airstrikes in the southern city of Daraa.

After the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December, Israel expanded its occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights by seizing the demilitarised buffer zone, a move that violated a 1974 disengagement agreement with Syria.

According to reports Israel also launched hundreds of airstrikes that targeted military sites and assets across Syria.
