WASHINGTON: US lawmakers on Friday approved a 1.66 trillion US dollars annual spending package that provides 45 billion US dollars in aid to Ukraine.

According to Reuters, just 9 out of the 213 House Republicans supported the bill, however, the leader of Republicans Kevin McCarthy opposed the legislation and termed it one of the most shameful acts in the constitutional history of Congress.

McCarthy was also present when a mob of Trump supporters attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Many Republicans wanted to delay the talks on the bill until their party has the majority early in the upcoming year. The bill would provide the Defense Department with a record 858 billion US dollars, up from 740 billion US dollars last year.
