UNGA First Committee Adopts Pakistan’s Arms Control Resolution with Majority

GENEVA: The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) First Committee on Thursday adopted a resolution tabled by Pakistan on “Conventional arms control at the regional and subregional levels” with an overwhelming majority.

The Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations in a statement posted on X, stated, “Today the UNGA First Committee has adopted with an overwhelming majority a resolution tabled by Pakistan on “Conventional arms control at the regional and subregional levels”.

Pakistan thanked the member states who voted in favour of the resolution.

The resolution is seen as a recognition of Pakistan’s long-standing efforts to promote conventional arms control and enhance stability in regional defence postures. The strong support from member states highlights the global acknowledgment of Pakistan’s advocacy for a controlled approach to conventional arms at a regional level.

Diplomatic observers at the UN lauded Pakistan’s commitment to disarmament and regional peacebuilding, commending the country’s sustained efforts to advance the goals of arms control and Confidence Building Measures (CBMs).
