Almond & Rose Kheer Recipe

ISLAMABAD: No celebration is truly complete without a traditional sweet, and kheer is the perfect choice for any festivity. Here’s a quick and easy kheer recipe infused with the goodness of almonds and a refreshing rose flavour that you can make at home.

Ingredients:

  • 2 liters full-fat milk
  • 120 grams rice
  • 40 grams grain sugar
  • 3-4 drops of rose water
  • 10 grams dried rose petals
  • 100 grams almonds
  • 25 grams almond slivers

Instructions:

  1. Soak the rice in water for about 20 minutes.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat the milk. Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat and simmer until the milk is reduced by half.
  3. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the milk, cooking on low heat until the rice is fully cooked and the mixture thickens.
  4. Stir in the chopped almonds and continue to cook on low heat for another 15 minutes, until the kheer is thick and creamy. Add the sugar.
  5. Allow the kheer to cool, then mix in the rose water. Refrigerate until serving.
  6. Roast the almond slivers in an oven at 180°C for 5 minutes, or until golden brown. Garnish the kheer with almonds and dried rose petals before serving.
