ISLAMABAD: No celebration is truly complete without a traditional sweet, and kheer is the perfect choice for any festivity. Here’s a quick and easy kheer recipe infused with the goodness of almonds and a refreshing rose flavour that you can make at home.
Ingredients:
- 2 liters full-fat milk
- 120 grams rice
- 40 grams grain sugar
- 3-4 drops of rose water
- 10 grams dried rose petals
- 100 grams almonds
- 25 grams almond slivers
Instructions:
- Soak the rice in water for about 20 minutes.
- In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat the milk. Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat and simmer until the milk is reduced by half.
- Drain the soaked rice and add it to the milk, cooking on low heat until the rice is fully cooked and the mixture thickens.
- Stir in the chopped almonds and continue to cook on low heat for another 15 minutes, until the kheer is thick and creamy. Add the sugar.
- Allow the kheer to cool, then mix in the rose water. Refrigerate until serving.
- Roast the almond slivers in an oven at 180°C for 5 minutes, or until golden brown. Garnish the kheer with almonds and dried rose petals before serving.
