All Roads Linking Islamabad, Rawalpindi Completely Sealed Amid PTI Protest

ISLAMABAD: All roads connecting Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been completely sealed due to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest at D-Chowk, causing widespread disruption.

The federal capital has been completely sealed off while mobile services have also been suspended due to the protest. Similarly, Metro services in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have also been suspended.

The situation at M1 Motorway

Local media reported that Motorway M-1 from Swabi Interchange have also been blocked.  According to local media reports, main entry points at Faizabad Islamabad Expressway, 26 No Chungi, 9th Avenue entry into Islamabad, Khanna Interchange towards Faisal Mosque, Margalla Avenue entry from GT road have been completely blocked with heavy containers. Similarly, Jinnah Avenue leading towards Blue Area as well as D-Chowk completely sealed. Locals told the media that they are suffering a lot due to daily protests in the city.

Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi warned of a strict action against those elements who launch an “onslaught on the capital”, urging PTI to review its protest call. He said that the PTI’s top leadership must review its protest call and no one will be permitted for an onrush on Islamabad.

Section 144 Imposed in Islamabad

On the other hand, the private schools’ association announced the closure of all educational institutions today due to protest of PTI. The association general secretary said that children’s safety is their top priority and even on Thursday, the students suffered a lot due to road blockades.

The local administration in Islamabad has enforced Section 144 and “the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act, 2024”, regulating holding of public assemblies, at certain areas in the city.
