WASHINGTON, USA: Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated in a court filing on Tuesday that he would plead not guilty to charges in a revised indictment accusing him of trying to overturn the 2020 election results.

Trump, a Republican candidate in the 2024 presidential election, waived his right to appear in court, allowing his lawyers to enter the plea on his behalf.

The revised indictment, led by Special Counsel Jack Smith, still includes the four original charges, such as attempting to defraud the United States and obstruct the certification of the election. It also reflects changes after the Supreme Court ruled that Trump has immunity from prosecution for some official actions taken during his presidency.

Trump initially pleaded not guilty to the charges in August 2023. Both sides are expected in court Thursday to discuss the implications of the Supreme Court’s ruling.
