LAHORE: Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party has announced to hold a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore on September 1.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formally requested permission from the district administration to hold the rally, with the request submitted by PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub. The application references relevant legal articles and Supreme Court rulings regarding rally permissions.
The PTI had previously postponed a planned power show in Lahore scheduled for August 27 due to the lack of permission. Additionally, a public gathering in Islamabad was canceled after the administration withdrew the No Objection Certificate (NOC).
The planned Tarnol rally on August 22 was also called off when the administration revoked the NOC, citing competing calls for protests from religious parties.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had earlier announced that the party would hold power shows in three major cities—Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi—following their rally in Swabi.
During a flag-hoisting ceremony at the DC Office in Buner, Barrister Gohar reaffirmed PTI’s commitment to advocating for the release of Imran Khan, stating, “We will continue to fight for Imran Khan’s release both in courts and through public gatherings.”
