Pakistan, Turkmenistan Agree to Enhance Cooperation in Multiple Sectors

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkmenistan have agreed to deepen economic engagement across key sectors such as trade, investment, energy, connectivity, and information technology.

This consensus was reached during the third round of Pakistan-Turkmenistan bilateral political consultations held in Islamabad.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov led their sides.

Both sides pledged to intensify collaborative efforts to expand and strengthen bilateral cooperation, encompassing political, economic, and defense domains. They specifically addressed ongoing projects like the TAPI pipeline and the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Electricity Transmission Line.

The consultations also encompassed a comprehensive review of Pakistan-Turkmenistan relations, emphasizing trade, investment, energy partnerships, connectivity initiatives, and cultural exchanges. Recognizing the positive trajectory of bilateral ties, they agreed to elevate high-level dialogues and exchanges, reinforcing bilateral dialogue mechanisms.

In his address, Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to augmenting trade and economic relations to realize their full potential. He stressed the importance of finalizing the Transit Trade Agreement swiftly and easing visa restrictions to facilitate business interactions.

Additionally, both countries resolved to enhance parliamentary engagements, cultural exchanges, educational scholarships, diplomatic training, and people-to-people contacts. They committed to bolstering cooperation in multilateral forums such as the United Nations and the Economic Cooperation Organization.

The consultations also addressed regional and global issues of mutual concern, including developments in Afghanistan and the situation in the Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
