ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s success on the diplomatic front will bring 43 Pakistani citizens back to their homes from Siri Lankan prisons.
In a high-level meeting on Friday with the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Admiral (Retd) Ravindra Chandra Srivijay Gunaratne, it was agreed to immediately repatriate 43 Pakistanis imprisoned in Sri Lanka.
Official media reported that the Ministry of Interior had been working with the Sri Lankan officials for the past month to bring back Pakistani citizens. The Sri Lankan High Commissioner has assured all possible cooperation in this connection.
Monsin Naqvi thanked the Sri Lankan High Commissioner for his support for the repatriation of Pakistani prisoners. In a statement, Mohsin Naqvi said that the arrangements for the return of Pakistanis will be finalized in a few days.
The minister added that the ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka have been going from strength to strength over the past seven decades. He said that Islamabad wants to further develop mutual ties in various sectors with Colombo. Issues of mutual interest and the development of bilateral ties were also discussed during the meeting. They also agreed to increase cooperation in the field of security and counter-narcotics.
Earlier, the Interior Minister welcomed the Sri Lankan High Commissioner on his arrival at the Ministry of Interior.
